The Atlanta Braves are often referred to as the “Team of the 90s.” Known for their Hall of Fame starting rotation with Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz, the Braves pitching staff was the envy of the baseball world. In 1998, a young flame thrower from Macon, Georgia arrived in Atlanta. In 1999, he quickly rose to become one of the most dominant closers in the game.
John Rocker was known for his sprinting entrance from the bullpen and intense style of pitching. That same year, Rocker sparked controversy with a quote given to Sports Illustrated writer, Jeff Pearlman. Some of said, Rocker was the first athlete to be “cancelled” by the mainstream media. Twenty five years later, Rocker reflects on his rise to prominence in MLB and sets the record straight on that SI interview.
One thing about Rocker is there’s no question about where he stands. Strap in for a wild ride with Brian, David and the one and only, John Rocker, in Episode 79 of the Legends on Deck Podcast!
