In the history of Major League Baseball, only three players have hit home runs in 8 consecutive games. Dale Long of the Pirates first accomplished the feat in 1956. Then, on July 18, 1987, New York Yankees first baseman Don Mattingly matched the MLB record with this fourth-inning, opposite-field shot off of the Texas Rangers’ Juan Guzman. 6 years later, Seattle Mariners legend and Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. also homered in 8 consecutive games. Junior’s home run to start the streak was at Yankee Stadium in a game in which Donnie Baseball also homered for the Yankees.
