The Washington Nationals made the wrong kind of history, becoming the first team to lose a game on a pitch clock violation.
The Nationals were tied with the Colorado Rockies 7-7 with the bases loaded, batter Ryan McMahon with a full count and the suspension sky high.
That’s when the home plate umpire called closer Kyle Finnegan for getting his pitch off too late.
McMahon swung and missed at the pitch, but the violation had been called and he was soon bathing in Gatorade.
Finnegan leads Major League Baseball in pitch clock violations with eight this season, three more than the next pitcher.
It might be a good time to remind Nationals fans that he also has an impressive 1.72 ERA and raises money for pediatric cancer.
MLB added the :20 pitch clock in 2023 to help speed up the pace of their games.
